Guilty fashion pleasure of the day: Cate Blanchett

No, this post is not about my girl crush on Cate Blanchett - a crush the existence of which I am neither facing up to nor denying, just to keep some mystery in our relationship here :)

This post is about her fashion choices - with a careful, yet eclectic selection of designers and looks that always event-appropriate, Cate's always managed to dress to impress in the best possible ways, earning her an international style icon status. The best part about her? The fact that, despite not one to shy away from more daring and sometimes questionable looks, she always exudes confidence and an elegance more reminiscent of old Hollywood sirens than today's flashy movie world. Case in point? Her latest two red carpet appearances, which have left me ooooh-ing and aaaah-ing :)

First, that beautiful Rodarte dress at the Dubai film festival. Once again, Cate took a runway look and made it her own by removing the original chains and hot pants to leave behind a soft, ethereal dusty-blue floor-length silk gown with shiny orange side panels and floaty chiffon skirt. Elegant, beautiful, effortless and sophisticated.

One day later, she stepped out for the Dubai Film Festival and IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Award Gala dinner in the most sensational beaded and embroidered peplum top from Peter Pilotto's Spring/Summer 2013 collection (a collection filled with breathtaking pieces which I am already loving seeing out and about). A departure from the dreamlike quality of the premiere dress she wore, but still so her. This is the secret behind any person with true style - making the things you wear so much your own that they seem to have been the only thing you could have worn.
